Primetals Technologies Austria GmbH is part of Primetals Inc, headquartered in London UK. The location in Austria started more than 60 years ago. In Linz Austria many new technologies in the field of iron and steelmaking were developed and our research and developments are still focused on production technologies, but today it is about how to apply Hydrogen to reduce the iron ores, how to reduce the carbon footprint of the entire production chain from ore to final product and how to apply digital plant solutions to improve competitiveness and quality.

Our latest focus areas include new ecological solutions for even greener steel production, the digitalization of all production-related processes, advanced automation as summed up by the term “Industry 4.0”, future-oriented designs for linked casting and rolling, as well as advanced process analysis and optimization.

Digitalization is one of the strategic focus topics for Primetals Technologies. Research Center for Non Destructive Testing (RECENDT GmbH)

As an internationally well-recognized Research Center for Materials Characterization and Non-Destructive Testing, RECENDT GmbH - which is part of the UAR Innovation Network - has operated very successfully within the Austrian and international markets since 2009. Milestones in the early years included becoming a non-university Christian Doppler laboratory (CD-lab) for Photoacoustics and Laser Ultrasonics (up until 2016 RECENDT operated as one of only two non-university CD-labs in Austria), and gaining the "special award for Research" at the Innovation Awards of the federal state of Upper Austria in 2010.

RECENDT has gained an internationally acknowledged reputation as a partner as well as a coordinator in numerous national, EU, and international projects. The company is well established as a popular partner for local SMEs and multinational enterprises.

Its shareholders are Upper Austrian Research GmbH (74%), Johannes Kepler University Linz (20%), and FH OÖ Forschungs und Entwicklungs GmbH (6%).

COMET centres promote the networking of basic scientific research and applied research and development. SCCH is evaluated at regular intervals by an international jury of experts. Scientific networking
SCCH bundles and integrates national and international scientific competencies and expands its contacts to scientists and scientific institutes in Austria and abroad in a project- and future-oriented manner.
